About Friendship Day

Every year the first Sunday of August is celebrated as Friendship Day. It is the time to cherish those unconditional loves that the friends bestow on each other throughout the year.

The tradition was initiated in 1935 by the US Congress as the National Friendship Day. The purpose was to celebrate the importance of friendship and the role friends play in each other’s life. Soon, it got a global acceptance and now, Friendship Day is celebrated throughout the world. It gained such popularity that the United Nations chose Winnie – the Pooh, the famous cartoon character as the Ambassador of Friendship in 1997.

With commercialization, the occasion gained momentum and now people spend a lot of money to make it unforgettable and making their friends special and beloved. The most popular customs on this day is to exchange pink and yellow roses and much hyped Friendship Band, which is regarded as a token of friendship as well as bonding between two individuals.
